The Apprentice - Episode 5Episode 5 |The Apprentice| (Back to main page)Yet another interesting episode as the teams became mixed. Each mixed team was given 1000 dollars seed money and instructed to buy whatever they could and sell it at a flea market the next day for a profit. The team with the most profit wins. Nick was made project manager of Versacorp and Kristi was made project manager of Protégé. The Versacorp team was resourceful and even found a valuable clothing rack to sell their goods in a dumpster! Meanwhile the Protégé could not figure out exactly what they wanted to sell and then later decided to go with an Asian theme that really was more spur of the moment than thought out. A monkey wrench was throw into the situation the next day when it began to rain. The Versacorp team found itself outside in the rain and really began to worry as sales were slow. Meanwhile the Protégé, which had gotten up early, took an inside booth and initially was doing great with inside sales away from the rain. The tides changed as they commonly do in the business world as the clouds and rain made way for the sun. The Versacorp team was hungry for sales and really began to not only make sales but aggressively pitch their wares. They sold everything down to the table cloth! Protégé was still inside and did not move it's booth outside despite the repeated plea's from Heidi who was disappointed in Kristi's lack of decision making and leadership. They failed to adapt to the change in weather. Nick did not go without criticism either as many felt he was not being an active leader and just letting the women run the show. His defense was that since things were going well and the women had proven themselves successful in the past why tamper with things. It turns out his excuse was valid but may still have reflected poorly on his abilities. Later that day as Omorosa was put in charge of accounting for sales that day she discovered money was missing! Fingers were pointed but no one took full responsibility for the loss. Heidi continued to display her anger for how things turned out and became very vocal to anyone that would listen. The next day it was back to the board room for the moment of truth. Team Versacorp came in with a profit of over 600 dollars while team Protégé came in with a loss of $75.78. Protégé quickly crumbled as all the fingers began to point at Kristi. An interesting side note was the actions of Kristi's friend Jessie who consoled Kristi and offered her a bit of support before they went into the board room. She coldly turned on Kristi during the board meeting with Mr. Trump blaming her for the teams failure. This was a huge blow to Kristi who seemed horribly defeated. In the end Kristi chose two strong members of her team to join her in the board room Omorosa and Heidi both of whom Trump passed judgment on as he narrowed in on Kristi. Trump liked Kristi's previous history but did not like her lack of energy to defend herself. She cowered and was quiet and for that reason Trump sent her packing. The winning team went on to Yankee Stadium to meet Yankee's owner George Steinbrenner, a man who took a losing team and made it a championship team.
