The Apprentice - Episode 11

Episode 11             |The Apprentice| (Back to main page)

Entrepreneur Fired = Katrina who was the lesser of the two in terms of overall historical performance.

Task:
Both teams were given the task to register gamblers for one day at the Trump Taj Mahal. The team generating the most profit via the players they registered wins.

Valuable insight gained from this episode:
Preparation:
Team Versacorp lead by Amy slept on the bus on their way to Atlantic City. Meanwhile team Protégé had every team member on their cell phones making calls preparing as much as they could for the task at hand. When they got to the hotel they were at it again meeting with Casino workers, getting advice, learning as much as they could. In the end this preparation helped a great deal.

Closing a deal:
Troy met with the producer of the Ferco Brothers Tiger and Illusion show. This person happened to be 10 years old. After Troy and him and they both agreed on cross promotion Troy continued to talk him up about the deal. The kid gave Troy some excellent advice.

"Let me give you some advice in life: Don't sell when it's already sold."

Quality not always Quanity:
Nick on team Protégé made an excellent decision to target the casino VIP line. At the end of the event team Protégé had registered 776 players while team Versacorp had registered 1337 players. The fact that Protégé had targeted the VIP line helped them. With fewer players Protégé brought in an extra 17,807 than team Versacorp.

Lousy Incentives:
Team Versacorp decided to have a drawing for a 300 dollar car rental. Most people who signed up were initially inclined to think it was the car itself that there was a drawing for. Team Protégé on the other hand did their research and learned that giving people a chance to spin the wheel was a crowd pleaser in addition to offering 1,000 cold hard cash as well as other perks they came up with.

Personal Relationships with the Competition:
The issue of Amy having a personal relationship with Nick came to a head when Katrina made issue of it in the board room. A considerable amount of time was spent on how this might affect Amy's ability to perform. Nick and Amy probably lost some points with this. In the end it was probably not the wisest thing to get into when your trying to become Donald Trumps Apprentice.
